Morning Drunks

Princeton, Texas
Clear Lake Park
Weather Condition; High 51 Low 46, Cloudy and Rain

I’m not naive and thought I knew the ways of the world. I’m beginning to believe I could be very wrong.

Easter morning around 10 AM I had been next door at our partner gate attendant’s fiver talking with them and walked back to our fiver when a man approached me. I don’t know where he came from, he just appeared. Anyway, in a loud voice he said he needed to talk to my Old Man. I could smell the booze on his breath even though I was standing 10 feet or so away. He also acted has if was high on something else because he was jerking around like he had ants biting him.

I told him I didn’t have an old man. He mumbled sorry to hear that. He said he needed someone to pull his truck out of the mud down near the boat ramp. I told him I was sorry but I couldn’t help him. He walked over and slapped the rear fender of my truck and said it would sure pull him out. I shook my head no. He then walked over to the other gate attendant and told him the situation and asked if he would pull him out. They told him no too.

The man mumbled thanks and walked out the entrance of the park.

It was 10 AM and this guy was rip roaring drunk!

On Wednesday morning we opened the gate house at 6 AM and within a couple of hours we had a couple of guys pull up to the gate house drinking beer asking if they could enter the park. We told them it would be $4 and they decided they didn’t want to pay the fee. They turned their car around and left.

It was around 8 AM and these guys were already drinking!

I don’t think I’ve ever know people that are drinking or drunk that early in the morning!!!

Yesterday we had no one come through the park except employees and volunteers. It would make for a lng day if we didn’t stay busy. We clean, surf the internet and take turns driving through the park to check on things.

Every day here has been adventure to date.

  1. We were staying at several Corps of Engineers campgrounds last summer, sites that offered fishing as well as camping and I was amazed at how many fishermen arrived before 5:00 and transferred already partially empty 24 packs into their boats at the ramp.

Makes me wonder how safe it is to be out on the water nowadays in addition to being out on the highway.

    Cheers,

  2. Stupid is as stupid does. Makes you wonder if these people are ever sober? And they are driving, too! :cO

  3. How uncouth! I'm never drunk much before noon. Hardly ever.

Sorry to hear you have no "old man." HAHAHA!

  4. The only time I have had an alcholic drink in the morning is when we have had Champagne Mimosas.

  5. I'm not a fisherman. But, from what I've seen fishing seems more like 'drinking in a boat'!

  6. This is one of the reasons that I do not want to be a camphost. Since I travel alone, I fear being the only one around when one of these idiots shows up. Good thing the other hosts were around. There are other workamping jobs where you would not have to deal with them.

  7. I sure hope you have some kind of "emergency" button to push at that gate...and I hope you aren't keeping actual cash there...Be very wary, girlfriends..There ARE bad people out there...Safety first!

  8. You should have offered to call the Sheriff to help him get his truck unstuck.
