Our First Day as Gate Attendants

Princeton, Texas
Clear Lake Park
Weather Condition; High 79 Low 60, Sunny

WOW! What a day. Today was our first day as gate attendants. We opened the office at 6:00 AM and had people at our window by 6:30 AM!

The early birds are fishermen! Anyway, we had a busy morning before our gate attendant coordinator showed up to get us logged into the computer.

Our gate attendant coordinator is also a park ranger and is a very busy guy. Thank goodness he is also a patient guy too!

He got us all setup on the computer and gave us a crash course on the park reservation software and off he went.

Before 10:00 AM this morning we had several RV’s with reservations pull in. Luckily for us, our partner gate attendants (Ted and Barbara) came over to lend a helping hand if needed. They are wonderful people and have been doing this for 14 years. They are also very patient people!

Dawn has taken over FULL control of the gate opening button! She has turned into a control freak over this button.

This little button opens and closes the entrance gate.

For the most part the day has been on and off busy. This is a GOOD thing since we're learning.

At this time we're dealing mostly with Day Use for fishermen. They pay $4.00 and use the boat ramps.

We've many end-of-day reports to do at closing at 10:00 PM. A very nice fellow gate attendant has called to say he would help us out if we needed his assistance with the reports. These people are so helpful. We're told that all the gate attendants are like family and help each other out. Now we have a new summer family!

We made it through our first day without getting yelled at or fired! We look forward to many more to come.

It's Official, We're Gate Attendants

Princeton, Texas
Clear Lake Park
Weather Condition; High 78 Low 60, Cloudy

Today was a nonstop busy day for us. We woke and hit the floor running.

First of all, we had to get the truck inspected. The nearest town is twelve miles. That would be a small town. The nearest major city is almost twenty miles away. Needless to say, we have to drive a distance to get anything we might need.

This morning we drove to the nearest major city and got the truck inspected. We stopped at the grocery store then stopped to grab a bite of lunch. Back to the fiver we went.

At home we unloaded the groceries and changed clothes and back into the truck again. We had to be at the lake headquarters office by 1 P.M.

We had our pre-work conference from 1 to 4. We were told the rules, explained the paperwork and issued our keys and uniforms. It’s official, we are now gate attendants. We start work at 6 A.M Monday morning.

We left the pre-work conference and stopped by the Wal-Mart for a few office supplies. Stopped for a quick dinner and returned back home after 7 P.M.

We are two very tired gals.

Clear Lake Park our New Home

Clear Lake Park is our home for the summer. This is a nice park off the beaten path. Clear Lake Campground is located on the north shores of Lavon Lake. Lake Lavon is located northeast of Dallas, Texas.

Lavon Lake spans 21,400 acres and is a great fishing lake. There are many types of fish such as channel catfish, crappie, striped bass and hybrid bass.
Gate house at entrance of park.

The campground offers 23 sites with water, sewer and electric hookups. Restrooms with hot showers, 2 boat ramps and a group pavilion. Some of the sites are very long and some are short. The sites have a nice distance between them. The cost is $30.00 per night and half price for Golden Access.

The group campground can accommodate 200 people and has toilets reserved solely for group campers. The picnic shelter at the group site comes with electric and water hookups, four cookers, and a campfire ring. There's also a large playing field for sports.

Most of the camp sites have shade and half are located along the shoreline.

Of course these pictures are taken in March before the grass and trees are green.

Our New Summer Home

Princeton, Texas
Clear Lake Park
Weather Condition; High 73 Low 62, Cloudy

We pulled out of Saltwater Flats at 8:54 Thursday morning. We were sad to be leaving our winter home.

We had plenty of friends to tell us good-bye as we left the park.

We decided to drive straight thru to Purtis Creek State Park. The weather was pleasant except for the wind. The wind wasn’t too bad but there were places when it was gusty.

We stopped for fuel one time and stopped to stretch our legs and walk the dogs once.

We arrived at Purtis Creek SP at 4:30 P.M.  Needless to say, we were both worn out. We set up the fiver and went for dinner at Hernandez. Hernandez is a wonderful little family owned restaurant in downtown Eustace.

WOW! We finally had some really great tex-mex. We were stuffed when we waddled out of there.

Back at the fiver, we took our showers and I was in bed by eight.

We stayed an additional day at Purtis Creek SP due to the gusty winds. We didn’t pull out until Monday morning.

We pulled out of Purtis Creek at 11:15 and had a pleasant 109 mile drive to our new home at Clear Lake Park at Lake Lavon.

It’s cold and windy here today. We are all set up.

There was a serious water leak here at the park and the water was turned off when we first arrived.

The plumbers showed up shortly after we did and got the leak repaired. The temperature is going to drop down to the twenties tonight so we won’t hook up the water until tomorrow when it warms up.

It was in the 80’s when we left Rockport and we’ve seen nothing over 60 since we got back in this area!
