Birthdays, Dinners and the Beach

Last week was a busy week for us. We helped our friend Jim celebrate his 75th birthday with cake, ice cream and friends.
Jim the birthday boy!
Seven of us got together and tried out a seafood restaurant that none of us had been to. Let’s say it was wonderful. Shempy’s is a small place with great food. Our tabled order hamburgers fish and shrimp. Everyone said they were very happy with their meal.

We also had to say our good-byes to three more winter Texans.
Carol, Charlie and Shadow

Our friends Jim and Marsha also pulled out and headed back north. I'm sorry to say I didn't get a picture of them before they left.

We also spent a day with Bob and Pauline. They drove us over to Port Aransas and we spent the afternoon on the beach.

After soaking up the sun we had lunch at a bar and grill that Bob highly recommended. He claimed they had the best burger around.

The place is kind of a hole in the wall, called Wild Horse Bar & Grill. We have now added it to our favorite place to eat list! We had peanuts (throw the shell on the floor). We all ordered burgers. Man, were they good!

On the ferry ride back, we were at the front of the ferry and I got a few shots of the dolphin’s playing in the water in front of us.

Bad Experience

Today was the ladies luncheon here at Coastal Oaks RV Resort. All the ladies go someplace and have lunch together once a month. This month we decided to have lunch in Fulton at Moon Dogs.  Moon Dogs isn’t a very big restaurant.
With that said, Dawn and I drove over on Friday afternoon to make sure they would be open on Monday. The hostess said she thought they would be open. Dawn asked if the girl could find out for sure because we had approximately sixteen ladies that would be coming for lunch. Another girl came over to the hostess stand and the hostess asks her if they would be open on Monday. Dawn explained that she just needed to make sure they would be open on Monday because we had a large group of ladies coming for lunch.

At that point, the second girl told Dawn with a snappy attitude that they would be open and do not take reservations.  Dawn said she wasn’t there to make reservations. She was there to make sure they would be open on Monday because no one answered the phone when she called an hour earlier.

Anyway, we went back to the park and told everyone that we would be having lunch on Monday at Moon Dogs.

Monday everyone loaded up into five vehicles and drove over to Moon Dogs for lunch. After everyone pulled into the parking lot and starting getting out of the vehicles, I noticed a man coming out of the back door of the restaurant waving his arms over his head yelling something in our direction. Dawn walked over to see what he was saying. He yelled out that they were closed. Dawn told him that we had driven over on Friday to make sure they would be open for our luncheon. With a hateful attitude he told her that his restaurant was closed for cleaning. He said that he had been extremely busy serving about 700 people the last few days and needed to close for cleaning. Dawn told him that was fine but someone should have told her that on Friday. He told her that he didn’t know who told her that they would be open. Dawn described the girls to him and he told her he didn’t know why they told her they would be open. He then walked away.

Everyone loaded back up into the vehicles and drove down the street to Hammerheads.

They were very friendly and accommodating. We had a very good lunch and our waitress was great.

Even though we had a large party our waitress was friendly and got every ones order right and she had a smile on her face.

Needless to say she received an extremely generous TIP.

Lesson learned today, everyone in our party said they would not be visiting Moon Dogs anytime soon if ever again.

Change of the Seasons

Time sure gets away from you when you’re having fun!!!!!!

Tonight we had a pizza party for all those winter Texans that remain here at our park. Everyone gathered at the end of the block and shared a slice of pizza and a laugh. There is never a dull moment when everyone gets together!

We’ve been busy having fun. We’ve spent a lot of our time recently visiting with our winter Texan friends who are slowly leaving to migrate back to their northern homes. We’ve made so many new friends while staying here in Rockport.

Many of the people here are from Iowa, Michigan, Wisconsin, Kansas, Arkansas and Missouri. There is a couple from Quebec and a couple from Alaska.

There are only a few other Texans that stay in this park.

Anyway, our new friends are slowly leaving the park. Tomorrow there are three RV’s scheduled to pull out. On Friday a couple of more will be leaving. It is sad to see them leave but we know we will all be migrating back here next fall.

Meanwhile, the empty sites are being filled with summer campers and spring breakers. Let me just say there is definitely a big difference between winter Texans and summer campers. First of all, winter Texans are friendly people that are happy to help their neighbor and rarely do you see any children. They also respect the quite hours of the park. At night you never know there is anyone else is in the place. The traffic on the roads is lite and moves at a slow pace. The grocery store is full of electric scooters and slow moving carts.

The spring breakers and summer campers come in with radios blaring, at least one kid and a dog hanging out each window of the vehicle. They make noise from the time they get up until the wee hours of the morning. There is suddenly tons of traffic on the roads and they are driving much faster. The grocery store is now filling with people wearing not much more then bathing suits toting beer and ice.

It’s called the change of the seasons here in the gulf area. It is an interesting thing to witness! We are so glad that we will be heading north when the majority of the summer campers will be moving into their sites here the gulf area.

Good Lord, I sound like an old grouch!

OysterFest and Birds

We went to OysterFest in Fulton,Texas with our friends Bob and Pauline.

This is the first thing we saw when we walked through the gate at OysterFest.

Can I just say there were tons of people there. The beer line was very long!

This is Bob cutting a rug to the sounds of the live music. We have no idea who this woman is. She just appeared out of thin air and started dancing with Bob.

OysterFest is a big deal here in Rockport. They have a carnival, Live music, oyster eating contest and  craft booths.

They also have belly dancers

We had fun watching all the people. Afterwards, Bob drove us around town and then to Dairy Queen for ice cream.

Food and Fun

We've been having a blast.

Dawn and I cooked up a Build-Your-Own-Taco dinner for the park. Everyone paid $4.00 and they built their own taco's and had plenty for dessert.

Our friend Charlie was also celebrating his 80th birthday so we made carrot cake for him.

We made our way back to Moondogs for Nachos. Their nacho are very good and very large. Next time we'll share an order!

We have been so busy we kinda of fell behind on the laundry. We some how managed to load our twelve loads of dirty laundry into the truck. That's right, 12 loads. That also included all our blankets, sheets and duds.

We went with a couple of other girls into Corpus and did a little shopping last week. We bought a really cute little outdoor table and a couple of matching chairs.

It is perfect for us. It all folds up flat for storing.

Well it's time to go for now. We are going to Oyster Fest today. FUN TIMES!!!!!!!
