Odis is at Home Recovering

Rockport, Texas
Weather Conditions; Sunny, 89 degrees

Monday morning started off terrible. We noticed Odis was not his usual self. He was lethargic and wasn’t interested in eating. When he isn’t in eating, there’s something wrong.

We tried feeding him treats and he wasn’t interested in those either.

We’ve never used a veterinary here in Rockport. Now we got to find one fast.

We loaded him up in the truck and took him to Bay Breeze Animal Clinic. There we met with a very friendly staff.

We explained our concerns about Odis and within a few minutes we were put in an examining room to wait for the doctor.

Our experience with the vet, Dr. Ashley Dierschke was a very good one. She ordered blood and an X-ray.

We waited for what seemed forever as our little Odis laid there feeling so sick.

Finally, the results came in. Odis was in critical condition and the results showed his electrolytes were very low and his sodium was off the charts high.

The doctor said we would need to hospitalize Odis and let them see if they could get his labs back in line.

Odis has never stayed a single night away from home alone. The doctor went on to explain that if he was not hospitalized he would probably die.

She said he would more than likely be hospitalized all week. We handed him over to the doctor and came straight home.

We were just sick with worry. He had been fine on Saturday. Sunday he started to believe a little funny. Monday he was very sick.

Monday afternoon we received a phone call from Dr. Kimberly Harrell. She said after more testing she had concluded that Odis has Addison’s disease. She explained that it’s not curable but it is treatable. She said she would be treating him accordingly and would keep us posted on his progress.

We immediately got of the computer and googled Addison’s disease. We have educated ourselves on how to help our little Odis.

Tuesday afternoon we received a call from the vet informing us that Odis had responded so well to his first treatment that he could go home.

We were ecstatic! We couldn’t wait to pick him up.

He looked so much better when they carried him out to us. He’s not hundred percent yet but, he could tell by just looking at him that he was feeling better.

He has to have Prednisolone daily for the rest of his life. He must have regular labs done to check his levels.

By Friday afternoon he was back to his old self.

Humming Bird Celebration

Humming Birds everywhere.

It's that time of year here in Rockport, Texas.

The HummerBird Celebration is an annual event held each September. The purpose is to celebrate the spectacular fall migration of the Ruby-throated hummingbird through the area, first documented by Connie Hagar in 1938.

We put out a couple of feeders and our neighbors have feeders out too. We sit on the patio every morning and watch the little hummers swarming the feeders.

Here are a few pictures I took while sitting on the patio.

Even the rain doesn't slow them down

Texas State Aquarium Visit

Dawn Paula and I visited the Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi.

They are currently working on an expansion. The aquarium is beautiful and has many different exhibits.

We watched the dolphin show. The dolphins put on a great show and they look so happy.

The eagles featured in this exhibit were rescued and rehabilitated at the Texas State Aquarium. This eagle suffers from a broken wing.

All of the sea turtles in Tortuga Cay were rehabilitated and then deemed them non-releasable

New Site

We haven’t posted in a good while because we’ve been busy.

Back in February we moved to a different site in the same park (Southern Star RV).

We love our new site. Our new site is more centrally located within the park. We are now closer to the laundry and have more neighbors.

We’ve made lots of new friends and so have our fur kids.

Weekend Visitors

Rockport, Texas
Weather Conditions; Sunny, 78 degrees

We’ve had more visitors. Yes, Our friends Mike, Lisa and their son Neal drove down from Dallas for the weekend.

Luckily the weather was good. We made the rounds and showed them all the great places we enjoy.

We spent time at the beach, the Big Tree and the Rockport hot spots.

We had a great visit.

We spent the rest of the week finishing up on some chores around our place.

We stained the new steps our friends Karen and Vickie gave us. We stained them dark and cut outdoor rugs in half and screwed them down on the steps.

We also built a wooden screen wall for the front of our rig. We’re able to store our generator, ladder and extra lawn chairs.

We only bought a few dollars of wood and the rest was pieces that were thrown away by our neighbors.

We also planted some plants and recovered our swing cushions.

Cruzin2some's Life in Rockport

Time sure gets away from you when you’re having FUN!

We’ve been doing some more exploring around Lamar, Texas and we drive through Goose Island SP.

We like to drive over to Lamar and look for the Whooping Cranes. Sometimes we see them and sometimes we don’t.

We did see the pelicans gathered at the fish cleaning station at Goose Island SP. The white pelicans mind their manners while the gray pelicans get right up close to the fishermen cleaning their catch.

The weather here has been cool and overcast for a few days then the sun comes out and it warms up nicely.

On the days it’s cool out we drive around and explore so that I can shoot pictures. Don’t know how much fun that is for Dawn. I guess she doesn’t mind as long as we stop by Sonic for a coke. She needs a Sonic coke fix on occasion.

I’ve shot a lot of pictures of birds from the sofa looking out the rear window of the fiver.

Here are a couple of examples of sofa shots.

We had friends, Bud and Bette over for burgers on the grill. We love spending time with our Bud and Bette.

Dawn and I went with twenty other ladies from our park to a luncheon last week. That was a lot of FUN too. We kind of went in and took over the place. I bet they think twice before sitting us in the middle of their restaurant again!

Dawn and I planted a couple of trees on our site. We found these two Cleveland Pear trees on the clearance isle and that were almost dead. We bought because we hate to see plants dying because no one will give them water.

Anyway, we bought them and planted them on our site and watered them. If they die it’s not because we didn’t try.

We had friends Karen and Vicki over for Sunday lunch this week.

Friends and Family touched by North Texas Tornado

Rockport, Texas
Weather Conditions; Sunny, 57 degrees

We haven’t posted much because the weather here has been cold and rainy.

The Weather back home (Rockwall-Garland, Texas) has finally claimed down.

Not only have they been dealing with more flooding again but also recovering from several tornados.

A total of 11 people were killed by the December 26th tornado outbreak.

One of my mother’s cousins lives in Rowlett, Texas. When the storm sirens went off she took her two dogs and hide in an interior closet of her home.

She survived but her home is gone.

My ex-brother-in-law’s 88 year old mother’s house in Copeville,Texas was also destroyed. Thankfully she also survived.

My niece’s grandmother on her father’s side was at home with one of her grandchildren in Rowlett, Texas when the storm sirens went off. They got into a closet down stairs. The tornado leveled the house and they had to be dug out. The grandmother was hospitalized because she has something lodged in her back.

The family appeared on World news digging their dogs from the rubble two days after the tornado.

It’s so heart breaking to see all the damage on the news and to know some of these people who have lost everything.

My friend Jerry and his wife lived in Copeville, Texas. Matter of fact, just a couple miles down the road from the park we worked this past summer.

He and his wife were found fifty yards or so from their house. He didn’t make it. His wife was found under debris and in bad shape.

She’s now in the hospital with rods and pins in her right arm and right leg. She also has broken bones in her back, pelvis, wrist, and ankle.

She told her son the only reason she survived was because Jerry held her as the storm tore through their house.

Jerry was only 49 years old. He and his wife had just celebrated their 25 wedding anniversary.

This is just heart breaking. Jerry was a great guy and always made me laugh. Everyone he worked with loved him.
